Mini Story: The history of the Bergère (see bergere) begins around 1720, in the salons of the Palace of Versailles during the reign of Louis XV, where it was considered the armchair of nobles and the wealthy bourgeoisie. In capitonné, the fabric is "puffy" and held in place by the seams which, at their points, "sink" the fabric. That is, in capitonné, many small puffy protrusions are created, separated from each other by the seams. These protrusions can be rhombuses, squares, stripes, and many other patterns.
