5 Ways to Make Your Candles Burn Longer

It may come as a surprise to many, but yes, there are right and wrong ways to store (and use) a decorative or scented candle. Here are some simple tips that will ensure that not only will your candles burn longer, but they will also retain their fragrance for longer!

Caution during first use

In other words, let it burn long enough (usually at least 1 hour) for the entire surface to burn out. If you extinguish it before this happens, then it is quite possible that an outer ring of wax will remain, which will never burn out.

Shorten the wick

For the candle to burn evenly, the wick length must be appropriate, to be precise, as close to 0.5 cm as possible. This means that after a few uses you will need to trim it with scissors so that it continues to burn evenly.

Extinguish the candle carefully.

If the candle is in a glass jar, you can extinguish it by placing the lid on top. If it is in a simple candle holder , then simply blow it out, but with as little force as possible, so as not to spill liquid wax onto your furniture .

Don't let the candle burn to the end.

Most experts recommend that you stop using a candle if it is less than one centimeter tall, as this can cause the candle holder to overheat. Fortunately, many modern candles are specially designed to automatically extinguish once they reach this critical height.

Store it properly

Ideally, a candle should be used within 12 to 16 months of purchase and stored in a shady place at room temperature. Temperature fluctuations can cause a candle to lose its fragrance and even change color. However, its functionality will not be affected.

Do you use candles purely as a decorative element , do you have them just to burn, or both? We would love for you to share your opinions with us in the comments below!
