4 Steps to Choosing the Right Rug for Your Living Room

A rug is much more than just a decorative item . It provides warmth to your feet when you step on it, gives a warmer atmosphere to the space and reduces the sounds produced, whether it is furniture such as coffee tables and armchairs that are dragged over it, or even human speech that is absorbed by the rug and does not bounce from the floor to the walls and vice versa. But with such a wide variety available on the market, both in designs and in construction materials, how will you be able to find the ideal rug for your needs? Just follow the four simple steps below!

1. Decoration style

First, choose the style that best suits your living room. The three main categories of decoration styles are: ethical, classic and modern. For the first category, choose a rug that is boho-style and ideally handmade, for the ultimate ethnic touch. If the style of your living room is classic, then choose an oriental design, which is considered an all-time classic. If your style is more modern, then choose minimal designs for your rug. This includes monochrome designs or designs with simple lines (stripes, geometric or abstract designs, etc.).

2. Construction material

The most common carpet materials found on the market are wool, polyester, polypropylene and nylon. Often, the material used to make the carpet also determines whether it will have a low or high pile, so choose carefully. It is common for summer carpets to have a low pile and winter carpets to have a high pile, but this is not always the case.

3. Color

The general rule is this: If you want to emphasize your furniture , then choose neutral colors, while if you want the main decorative element of your living room to be the rug, then choose bright colors for it.

4. Size

Finally, the size of the rug you choose is also particularly important. Make sure it is large enough to fit under the sofa and wide enough for its corners to touch. From there, after you have done the initial "filtering", choose a rug that really excites you, as it is an object that you will probably have in your possession for several years and will be a reference point in your living room.

What criteria do you use to choose your carpets? We would be happy if you could share your thoughts with us in the comments below!
